Amos - Week 4
Part 4: God’s Plumb Line
The visions God gives to Amos help us better understand how God’s judgment works. It’s not the result of God “losing His temper” or us getting on His last nerve. He gives us abundant warnings and opportunities to repent (the events described in 4:6-13 are perhaps the real-world results of Amos’ first two visions). In the end, He must vindicate His name. Just as a crooked wall would discourage people from hiring an architect who designed it, a crooked life lived by a professing believer drives people away from calling upon God. Our own self-assessment is often incorrect (see 6:1-7). So we need to seek God’s evaluation.
