The Power of Looking Ahead
We often call this chapter “God’s Hall of Faith.” But the author of Hebrews wasn’t trying to simply honor these great heroes of the past. He was showing us that it was their hope in the fulfillment of God’s future promises that enabled them to live triumphant lives. He wants us to recall their stories, and so in this series, we will. Can we live focused on the future, as they did?
Part 1: Chasing the Unseen
Faith isn’t what we often think it is. Today, we often think of great Christian faith in terms of people who “claim” God’s promises to build successful lives, like best-selling Christian authors or famous Christian athletes. But the truly victorious believers, like Abel, Enoch, and Noah, must have seemed insane at times, because they were focused on things they couldn’t yet see instead of earthly “success.”
