To a congregation who were experiencing some conflict, Paul quoted this ancient hymn about how Jesus gave up all His rights to save us, and will someday receive the praise of the whole earth. It’s a reminder to us of the lesson Christ taught His disciples over and over again: Humility is the way to glory.
